Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure. It is proven to improve women body image and self confidence.
Why is breast augmentation done?
Breast enlargement surgery is done to increase the size of the breasts and enhance their shape. You may consider breast augmentation to:
- Enhance the size of your breasts if you consider them too small for your body frame.
- Restore the shape and size of your breasts after significant weight loss or pregnancy. Breast lift maybe required at the same time of augmentation to have better results
- Correction of breast asymmetry in women who have one breast larger or sit higher than the other.
Breast augmentation will not prevent the breasts from sagging as a result of future pregnancy, weight change (gain or loss) and aging.
What happens before the operation?
When you attend your first consultation for breast augmentation you will have a full clinical assessment consisting of detailed medical history and clinical examination. I will ask questions about reasons for requesting breast augmentation and the desired breast size. I will listen to your views and enquire about your expectations.
You will have a detailed clinical examination of both breasts and the chest wall to ensure that your breasts have no abnormality such as lumps or asymmetry prior to the surgery. Measurements of both breasts will be taken to help choosing the correct size implant. Following the examination I will discuss with you the dimensions of your breasts, suitable implant types, shapes and sizes that are likely to achieve your goals. You ll be shown different types and shapes or implants and agree on the implant size before your operation.
Breast augmentation is a lifetime commitment. It is essential that you are making the appropriate choice and understand all the implications of the surgery you are considering. You may need revision surgery as the years go by and you need to be prepared personally and financially for this.
